5'10", 140lb, 38" chest. The standard fit drowns you in fabric. The "slim fit" off-the-rack still has shoulders too wide because the brand derived shoulder from chest size. We don't derive — we measure shoulder directly.
When a brand sells you "Slim Fit," they mean a fixed pattern modification — slightly narrower shoulders, slightly more waist suppression than their base. If you're actually slim (not just a regular guy who wants a tighter cut), that fixed modification is still wrong.
The shoulder is the kicker. Standard MTM platforms usually derive shoulder width from chest measurement. So a 36" chest auto-gets a shoulder around 17", regardless of whether your actual shoulder is 16.5" or 17.5". A wide shoulder on a slim build is what reads as "borrowed" — the rest of the jacket can be perfect and the shoulder still kills it.
At RemoteSuit your shoulder-to-shoulder measurement is an explicit input. The jacket is cut from that, not derived. Plus real waist suppression to your actual waist measurement, plus optional narrower lapel for a smaller torso. From $109.
The single most important measurement for slim builds.
No rounding to a stocked drop ratio.
Slim arms get a tapered sleeve that doesn't look billowy.
Slim build doesn't need a wide trouser — we can taper hard.
Reads more proportionate on a slimmer torso. Your call in the Atelier.
A real atelier rep checks your measurements against your photos — so a slim shoulder is cut as a slim shoulder, not flagged as a typo.
